United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) articles supported by our Languages curriculum:

Languages: This curricular area includes modern languages, classical languages and Scots. Literacy is the sets of skills which allows an individual to engage fully in society and in learning, through the different forms of language, and the range of texts, which society values and finds useful.

Literacy and English: The development of literacy skills plays an important role in all learning. Children's literacy skills are developed in listening and talking, reading and writing.  Using 'Literacy for All' strategies, teachers provide opportunities for children to communicate, collaborate and build relationships.  Children are given the opportunity to engage with and create a wide range of texts.

Modern Languages: Knowing other languages and understanding other cultures is a 21st century skill set for students as they prepare to live and work in a global society. In our school we teach French and Spanish from Primary 1. In the last few years, pupils from Primary 5-7 have been introduced to Mandarin as their third language.

Children are also introduced to Makaton through school assemblies.
