What is Forest School? Forest School is about using the outdoors to promote confidence, self-esteem and independence. At St Charles' Primary & LCR we are passionate about developing the whole child, not just their academic ability. The benefits of Forest School to the children are many and include improved confidence, behaviour, concentration, independence, resilience, creativity and teamwork.

Our Forest School sessions are led by Miss Ross, who is a Level 1 Forest School Leader, or by Andrea Fischer from the Children's Wood, who is one of our community partners and is also a fully qualified Level 3 Forest School Leader.

We started Forest School at our school in August 2019 and the feedback from all involved, especially and most importantly the children, has been overwhelmingly positive. The children absolutely love being outdoors and embrace the games, challenges and activities with great enthusiasm. We are delighted to be able to give them opportunities to try out new things and grow together in such a fun and beneficial way.

Our Primary 1 'Weans in the Woods' take place in the Children's Woods, one of our favourite outdoor learning spaces. Primary 7's Forest School sessions use a variety of locations including the school grounds, the parish garden, the Botanic Gardens, the Hamiltonhill Claypits Local Nature Reserve and various other places within hiking distance!
